Markus is mean

Markus woke up at 2:05am.  I made him a bottle, but he didn't want it so we just rocked.  And rocked and rocked.  He wasn't crying, he wasn't sleeping either, just chillin! lol  I put him back in his crib at 2:55.  He woke up again around 3:30.  Again, I tried a bottle but he didn't want it.  I suctioned out his nose (full of snot) and tried the bottle again...nope.  So we rocked...and rocked.  Around 4:00 I moved all my strategically placed pillows to make room for him in my bed.  He tossed and turned and whined, he couldn't be still for more than a few minutes.  By 5 I am panicked because I know I will not get the sleep I need!!  I wanted so much to wake Randall up and ask him to take a turn!  But it's my job during the week, plus he has been working double time at work.  So the alarm went off at 6, I certainly didn't need to push snooze, I was already awake.  I snuck out of bed, took a super quick shower, expecting Markus to be crying when I turned the water off.  Well, it's now 7:06am and do you know what lil home boy is doing?  HE IS SLEEPING!!  That's right, sleeping all warm and cozy next to Randy.

I'm cold and sleepy and my body aches from laying stiff in my bed.  Reagan has a doc appointment this morning and I need stuff from the store, so being lazy isn't an option.  Do you think Markus cares??  No, he only cares about himself, he is mean!!

A big thank you to my friend Melanie for making my blog festive! If you need something done on the computer, just ask a friend who is recovering from surgery! :)  Love you Mel!

The Magical Fruit

Tomorrow is not going to be the best day to pay Markus a visit.  He had whole pinto beans for dinner! lol  You've been warned!

Here are some pictures that didn't make the Christmas card cut.

Three funny stories- Do you know how deeply satisfying it is to scare the geebeez out of someone?  Well, I did that to Nolan.  Yesterday he was waiting for me to take him to the library.  I was finishing up in the bathroom and saw his little fingers wrap around the door frame (he was going to scare me), so I scared him.  OMG that boy screamed a terrified scream, it was priceless!!!  He was so mad at me he cried!  But I still, even today, can't stop myself from giggling about it.  It's the simple things in life that matter! ;)
We traded dining tables with some friends of ours.  Kennedy and I were holding the table top steady while Randy laid under the table on his back, screwing the top to the base.  Kennedy said "Um... Dad... your fly is open".  CRACKED ME UP!!!  She wasn't even kidding, she was just making a statement.  lol
Karrigan was watching Markus in the bath.  She was being nice and decided to wash him, without my asking her to.  She brought him to me in a towel and I was surprised.  I asked her if she washed him.  She said "Yes.  Well, I washed all of him, except his parts.  I just put soap on the washcloth and splashed his parts with it".  She adores Markus, but not his "parts". lol

Church

Markus went to church for the first time today!  I told the director that I didn't want him to cry at ALL.  The minute he got upset I wanted them to page me!  I just don't want him to think that church is the place we dump him and don't come back. lol  But he did great!  I checked on him between church and class and he was happy.
Tomorrow is back to school and back to alarm clocks and home work. booo!  We've had a great break from school and now will count down the days till the next break in December.
The movie from last night, A Christmas Carol, was SCARY!  Reagan covered her head with her blanket for so long she feel asleep.  And I'm glad because it was way too scary for her to watch.  I really don't recommend it.  There are many, many Christmas movies that are funny or touching! LOL No need to scare the kids.

Thankful posts

Today I am thankful for Markus's paternal birth family! They had enormous faith in us, trusting us with Markus. And now they have become friends to our entire family.

Today I am thankful for........TODAY! Another day to laugh and sing! Another day to love and cherish! Another day to take it all in!

Today I am thankful for Karrigan's BFFAE, Shayli. She is such a precious friend to Karrigan. But she is a friend to all my kids. She is a great help to me and I love her dearly!

Today I am thankful for Randy, my ball and chain. He doesn't make a ton of money. He doesn't have a sexy job title. He isn't romantic. He sometimes makes poor decisions. But....he is MINE!

Pictures

We took pictures for Christmas cards this afternoon.  I don't think Randy and I have ever sent out Christmas cards. lol It was a great day for pictures, sunny and pleasant outside.  The kids were great and we managed to get a few good shots (I'll post them later), not easy with 5 kids!  We treated them to ice cream for being cooperative! :)
The Christmas tree is out of the attic and waiting for my attention.  The kids are excited to decorate.  We are going to use the baby jail to keep Markus away from the tree.  So... no jail for a month or so. :)
We had a great Thanksgiving day.  Randy's parents came to our home for lunch.  Randy got called in to work, so only the kids and I went to Corinth to eat with Markus's birth family for dinner.  On the way home we met my niece Maggie and her mom Sarah, so that Reagan could spend the night with them.  Reagan joined them for the night and to watch Disney Princess on Ice.  How fun!  Friday I got up at 4am to hit Walmart's Black Friday specials.  I went with two great friends, that made it sooo much better than being alone.  We hit several stores and got some great deals.
Nolan, Markus and Reagan seem to be suffering from cold/allergies.  No fevers but runny noses and mucus coughs.
The family is starting a movie now, "A Christmas Carol" with Jim Carey.  I don't think I've seen it before but the kids have.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Wednesday Stuff

I have been so busy!  But a good busy (is there such a thing?).  Tomorrow is Thanksgiving, we plan to have lunch with Randy's parents and dinner with Markus's birth family.  Randy is on call, so he could have to leave at any time.  Hopefully he WILL get calls, but not too many. :)
I had a visit from ECI (for Markus) and CLASS Coordinator (for Kennedy) this week.  Both are terrific programs!!
Karrigan's BFFAE Shayli spent the day with us.  We had a good first day off of school. We had lunch at McDonalds.  Markus saw the PT at Scottish Rite.  The therapist taught me massage and stretching exercises to help with Markus's clubbed feet.  The more stretching we can do, the less aggressive surgery will have to be and the quicker he can heal.  We played on the playground at the hospital.   Then Kennedy had a check up at psychiatry clinic, it was good.  In fact, we don't have to go back.  We can just use Kennedy's primary care doc.
The weather has been so nice here.  Today is was 80 and breezy.  The other day, the kids and I were outside.   While I sat on the swing and read, Nolan and Karrigan both took a turn taking Markus for a walk in his stroller.  Markus loved it!  But Reagan wanted a turn.  So I told her she could push him, but to count 5 houses and then turn around.  Reagan takes longer, going 5 houses down, than the other kids going the whole street.  She talks to Markus.  She stops to look at things  and share with him.  She picks up things to show him.  It is PRECIOUS!  I loved watching her.
Nolan was upset tonight, talking about Thanksgiving.  He said that turkeys are animals and he doesn't know why we have to eat animals.  I reminded him about hamburgers.  He said he feels bad when he eats a hamburger.  He said that he thinks eating animals should be against the law, and he doesn't care how good bacon tastes!  Sweet boy!
My niece Megan came by tonight.  What a treat!  We don't see her nearly as much as we'd like.  And she hadn't met Markus yet.  I love that girl!  I'm so proud of her.
For the first time EVER, I am going to shop the wee hours of "Black Friday".  I have always said those shoppers are CRAZY. lol  But now that my kids are asking for expensive stuff, it doesn't seem so crazy.  Did you know that I have FIVE kids???  So Black Friday is almost a necessity now.
Have a blessed Thanksgiving Day!

Happy Birthday Markus!

Today is Markus's first birthday!  His party was yesterday and he had a huge turn out! How blessed, to be adored by so many!  A heartfelt thank you to everyone who came to celebrate and even those who wanted to, but couldn't.  We asked for books, to start his library, and books he received!!  For some reason I don't have any pictures (except one) of Markus WITH someone!  Maybe someone who attended the party was smarter than me?? lol  Markus has been with us for 3 weeks and one day!  In some ways it seems like he has always been here.  In other ways it seems like we are still getting use to him.  Any way you twist it, we love him like crazy!
I do not recommend the cupcake cake.  It's way too messy.  Pick a cake or cupcakes, not both!

One HANDSOME birthday boy!

                                                           Some of the many guests.

Precious, one tooth Reagan!

Ashleigh and Markus

CAKE!!!

Cleaned up and ready for presents!

Playing with a balloon after everyone left.  He loved that thing!

Randy's mom (and dad) should be home by tomorrow night.  She and our brother in law are recovering well.  It will be wonderful for them to put this behind them and get on with the business of living!  We have so much to be grateful for.  So do you, don't forget that!

Wherever You Are

Wherever You Are: My Love Will Find You
I stumbled on this PRECIOUS book at the book store with Nolan today.  I got teary reading it, I can't wait to read it to the kids!  I will post the words, but the pictures are darling as well.  If you have little people, you will want this book.  I paid 16.99, but I saw it much cheaper just now on Amazon.:(

I wanted you more
than you ever will know,
so I sent love to follow
wherever you go.

It's high as you wish it.  It's quick as an elf.
You'll never outgrow it....it stretches itself!

So climb any mountain...
climb up to the sky!
My love will find you.
My love can fly!

Make a big splash!  Go out on a limb!
My love will find you.  My love can swim!

It never gets lost, never fades, never ends...

if you're working....

or playing...

or sitting with friends.

You can dance til you're dizzy...

paint til you're blue...There's no place, not one,
that my love can't find you.

And if someday you're lonely,
or someday you're sad,
or you strike out at baseball,
or think you've been bad...
just lift up your face, feel the wind in your hair.
That's me, my sweet baby, my love is right there.

In the green of the grass... in the smell of
the sea...in the clouds floating by...
at the top of a tree...in the sound
crickets make at the end of the day....
"You are loved.  You are loved.  You are loved," they all say.

My love is so high, and so wide and
so deep, it's always right there, even
when you're asleep.

So hold your head high
and don't be afraid
to march to the front
of your own parade.

If you're still my small babe
or you're all the way grown,
my promise to you
is you're never alone.

You are my angel, my darling,
my star...and my love will find you,
wherever you are.

Friday!

Randy came home in the wee hours this morning.  He spent the day with Markus and I, running errands.  Our brother in law, Tye, is home and doing well.  Randy's mom should be released soon, she is doing well also.
Tonight was mine and Karrigan's first basketball practice for the season.  It was rather lame, only 3 girls came.  But school districts are different and lots of families are traveling this weekend.  I think both of us are excited about this season.
Guess what!!!  Nolan wants to play basketball!!  I am thrilled! His buddy is going to play also, that was his stipulation.  Hello..... it's Nolan..... playing a SPORT.... with running...... and sweating..... and other players!  This means a CRAZY basketball season for Randy and I.  I'm positive Nolan's game will conflict with Karrigan's.  We will work it out, but boy will we have crazy Saturdays! lol
Tomorrow I have a breakfast date with my Grandpa.  Then I need to get things ready for Markus's birthday party!  It will be very simple, just cake and ice cream and a few family members and friends.  I have asked only for books for his birthday.  With Christmas right around the corner, he will get plenty of toys.  But toddler books are in short supply at our house.
Praise God for another day I got to spend with my family!  I love them all so much!!

Thankful posts

Today I am thankful for a super great landlord!

Today I am thankful for Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children! For 13 years they have provided my oldest child excellent care for FREE. Now they provide the same excellent care for my youngest, also for FREE.

Today I am thankful for Nolan. Nolan was not a planned baby, but a wonderful surprise blessing! He has always been easy to love and I've loved him madly since day one. He is 9 now and an incredible joy! He amazes me every day with his intelligence, wit, maturity and compassion. Every mom should get to have a Nolan! I ♥ Nolan!

Stuff

OK, well my mother is law has a final diagnosis of a pulmonary embolism.  Which isn't great, but it's wonderful to have an answer and that it can easily be treated!  She has to stay inpatient another 2 days for treatment.  I'm not sure when they will come back to Texas.  My brother in law is home!  Neither of them would have chosen this route, but both of them have truly been blessed with their care!  Randy is flying home as I type.  The kids and I have done well alone, but we sure will be glad to have him back.
Markus and I, along with my friend Robbi paid our sweet friend Melanie a visit in the hospital today.  She had surgery yesterday and will be there until Saturday.  She seemed to be tolerating things well and has her super hubby there to help her.  Robbi and I had a YUMMY lunch at The Cheesecake Factory!  Their menu is so big, you could eat there every day for a month and not try everything.  I can't deal with all those choices!!
Reagan had a "feast" outside today.  I asked if Markus could join her, she loved that idea.  Here are some pictures.

 Look at his neck! lol

You know what this is?  It's love!  Robbi loved me enough to organize my pantry!  She begged to help me while Randy was gone.   I told her this would sooo bless me!!  I was sick of things falling on me every time I opened the door.  Thank you Robbi for always doing whatever I need!

I didn't sleep well last night.  Markus got up several times and Reagan slept with me.  She is not a good bed mate! lol  She talks, grinds her teeth and moves a lot.  During the wee hours this morning, Markus was crying and when I got up to check on him, I got a terrible leg cramp! The kind you get when you are pregnant.  It was debilitating and my leg has been sore all day.  I am hoping for a better rest tonight.  On a positive note... the kids have been really good during Randy's absence.  They have been doing whatever chores I assign them and not complaining about our quickie dinners.  They could have made this a lot harder on me, but they didn't.  I have actually enjoyed them as much as ever.  They are all in bed now (8:15 wow!), washed and fed, homework done and they are happy.  I'm looking forward to the weekend.  Markus's birthday party is on Saturday!  He is going to love being the center of attention!!  I plan on spending some time with Grandpa.  And hopefully the 7 Carpenters can spend some quality time together.
I'm off to read my book by flashlight! :)

School paper

Yesterday I found the BEST paper in Nolan's backpack.  I was going to share it here, and then put it away for safe keeping.  BUT... Nolan found the paper and now it is gone.  I searched his room but couldn't find it. :(  I will ask him about it today, I just hope he didn't throw it away!  I found another paper I want to share today.  I am writing it exactly as he did.

10-29-10
I want to live in a suburban.  Orlando, Florida is where I want to live. I want to take trips to the. Well, I think the Gulf of Mexico.  I'm not sure, but I'm 75% sure.  I'm 25% sure that it is the Atlantic Ocean.  I love to be in places like that.  Califona, Florida, and so on.  Also, I want at least 19 pet dogs.  15 little rat dogs, and 4 Germand Shepards.  That is why I want to live in a suburban.  It also involves lots of hot dogs.

Hump Day

 Good morning!

Randy left for Florida yesterday to be with his family.  My brother in law Tye is recovering well and has moved into a regular room.  I heard he is walking and feel pretty good!  My mother in law is being treated for pneumonia, that's about the only thing I know for sure.  I have not talked to Randy to get a good explanation and update.  I'm sure he will call today after the doctor comes by.
Markus had a check up with the Orthopedic docs at Scottish Rite yesterday.  The tentative plan to correct his clubbed feet is to do surgery and casting in 3 months.  The thought is that in 3 months Markus should be working to kneel and stand.  He is super motivated, so with exercises and physical therapy, I think he will be ready at our next visit in March.  Markus's birth father and grandmother met us for lunch and joined us for his clinic visit.  Of course they were over the moon to see him.  But he was equally as thrilled to see them.  If I were a better mommy, I would have taken my camera. :(
Basketball starts this week.  Can you imagine me, getting to practice every week with my herd of children?  I am like a real life comic strip!

Kennedy looked so pretty this morning, I had to snap a picture.  I wish she wouldn't have done that weird, stiff neck thing, her head looks too big for her body! lol  But take my word for it, she looked beautiful!  Think about this.... the year Kennedy is a senior in high school, Markus will start kindergarten!  Wow, I'd better start eating my Wheaties!

Thankful posts

Candice Carpenter has a 2nd thankful post today. I am so thankful for my friend Robbi! She is everyone's best friend. She just knows what you need, plus she makes you laugh. The entire Banks family is an amazing blessing to my family. My reasons are endless! I hope to be half the friend to them that they are to me. I ♥ Robbi!

Candice Carpenter Today I am thankful for the CWF ministry. My husband has found something he loves to do. My kids are CWF's biggest fans. We have made incredible friends. And I get to see people come to trust Jesus at every show. Remember that our reason for LIVING is to worship our Lord and further His kingdom. http://www.christianwrestling.com/

Candice Carpenter Today I thankful for chores. Yep, chores! I have a nice home to clean, lots of clothes to fold, dirty dishes to wash that were full of food, warm water to bathe my kids in, soft beds to make, the list goes on and on. My family and I are overflowing with chores, chores that some people would do anything to have!

Sunday

Happy Sunday everyone!  It's a beautiful day here in my neck of the woods!  It's sunny and cool.  Lots to catch up on today.  Randy's sister's husband, Tye is out of surgery and recovering nicely.  He had triple bypass yesterday, a rough night with pain management but is off the ventilator and feeling much better today!  Praise God his heart problems were diagnosed and treated before something far worse happen to him!  Please continue to lift Tye up in prayer as well as his family.  My prayer for Tye is every day to have less pain and more strength!  And that he can get back to life, only better than before!  Our friend Melanie is having major surgery on Wednesday.  With three young children, her family will have to make a lot of adjustments.  I pray that her surgery will be successful and that she will heal fully and as comfortably as possible.
Today is our first "home visit" from our Social Worker at the adoption agency.  We don't expect it to be a big deal.  She has to come by and check on everyone a certain number of times before the final adoption.  I actually love expecting company because Randy helps me clean! lol  He is great at cleaning the kitchen!  Which I am grateful for because I hate the kitchen.
Everyone is healthy!  Yippie!
Markus has an appointment on Tuesday with the Orthopedic docs.  I am super eager to hear what the plan for his little feet are (they are clubbed)!!  I need to get pictures of his feet up so you can see what they look like.  If you're like me, you know what it means, but haven't seen it up close for yourself.  Markus will walk.  How do I know that?  Because I just know. I see it, I feel it, I believe it, he will walk. So I am excited to start the process of "fixin" his feet so he can get moving!
Yesterday was the monthly CWF show in Rockwall.  It was a fun show!  Markus didn't appreciate it so much! lol  The music seemed WAY louder than normal, even to me.  Don't they know MARKUS was there!?  Here are some pictures.

Even though....

Trust His ways, even though they may not be your ways.
Take His hand, even though it means letting go of what you are hanging onto.
Depend upon His strength, even though you are aware of your weakness.
Please His heart, even though it means not having the approval of others.
Wait for His time, even though you desire to do it now.
Obey His Word, even though you hear different opinions.
Follow His path, even though it takes you through valleys and hills.
Seek His wisdom, even though you don’t understand everything He’s doing.
Give Him praise, even though you wish things were different.
Be at rest, even though you’re tempted to worry and fear.

Thank you Crystal for this email yesterday, I love it!

Jail

I put the baby jail up for the first time today.  I haven't done it before now because I really didn't think Markus would like it, and I didn't want him to feel isolated.   Plus it takes up a lot of room. I don't know WHAT I was thinking! lol  He likes it!  It's an octagon of baby freedom!  It's 6 feet of "baby turf".  He will play in there for 20 minutes!   And I don't have to worry about where he is or what he is putting in his mouth.  You can't imagine what I can get done in 20 minutes!   Here are some pictures of the prisoner.

TGIF

I'm up, but I wish I were snoozing away!  Markus and I slept on the couch last night.  He was crying every 20-30 minutes last night.  After about the 3rd time of trying to soothe him, we moved to the couch.  Of course, he is up, happy as can be! :)  He is eating breakfast beside me at the table right now.  I gave him a banana for the first time.  I have stayed away from them because they are constipating.  He is on that banana like a rat on a Cheeto!  He is also having green grapes (his favorite), wheat toast and prune juice (hopefully to balance out the banana).  After we get all the kids to school today, we are going to a friend's house to "shop" her baby things.
Our brother in law is having a heart cath done this morning, probably right now.  Doctors  hope to find and fix whatever is wrong.  He spent the night in ICU.
I'll try to get some pictures up today.  Have a great Friday everyone!

Thursday

Karrigan is home again today.  She feels better but her throat has puss, so I figured she should stay home.  She was mad that she got ready for school! lol
Nolan had to choose his first Science Fair project yesterday.  It's mandatory in 3rd grade.  He chose something to do with the comparison of pixels in older video games verses the newer ones.  Thank GOODNESS his teacher said no. lol  It wasn't really "testable".  I hate these projects!!  And with Nolan, I'm going to hate it even more.  I need to hire someone smart to help him. :)
Reagan and I had an ice cream date after school yesterday.  I wish I would have taken my camera.  It was so funny watching her try to eat a cone with her one front tooth.  She is such a sweet girl!  She was thrilled with our date.
I just heard that my brother in law is having some health issues.  His name is Tye.  Also, my good friend Donna had a  health scare this week and needs some tests to find out whats going on.   Finally, another dear friend's mother is having her bladder removed due to cancer.   Her name is Elona.  Please lift each of these people, their families and their doctors up in prayer.

More Thankful posts

Today I am thankful for my God, my Savior Jesus Christ and His love for me. Saying I am thankful for the Lord seems too easy. But I am completely humbled, ashamed, amazed and whole heartily grateful for His love of a sinner like me.

Today I am thankful to live in a free country! And thankful to have people willing to die for MY freedom. Freedom is NOT free. Thank you!! My Grandpa is THE proudest American I know. And a proud vet.

Wednesday

Karrigan came home from school with sore throat and fever.  Markus and I were already at her school, counting fundraiser money, so it worked out.  She is the third Carpenter kid in less than a week to have fever.  Hopefully hers will pass just as quickly as the others' did.  I hope Kennedy and Reagan can skip their turns!  Markus got up at 2am, 4am and then with me at 6.  He just went down for a nap.  Instead of cleaning during his nap today, I am going to sleep!  It's a beautiful, sunny day here, should be around 75.  The kids love to play outside after school on days like this.  I love it too!  Have a great day!!

Today I am thankful for our church family. We aren't supposed to take Markus to church for 3 weeks. But we snuck in today for class and a baby shower. They have been so faithful to lift our family up in prayer and offer encouragement!

Today I am thankful for my Kennedy. Without her trying or even knowing, she changed me. Not just transformed me into a mother, but changed ME, heart and soul. She changed the way I see people and who I want to be. Kennedy paved the way for her siblings. She is my inspiration. I ♥ Kennedy!

Today I am thankful for... Markus! Yep, you knew it was coming. Since he has come home to us, everyone in the house is smiling more. He is work, but the payoff is incredible! His little light has set the Carpenter house aglow! Markus reminds me that there is no such thing as impossible.

Tuesday

It's been a good day.  The weather was beautiful, mid 70's and sunny.  Markus slept well last night, only woke up one time before our day started at 6.  He took a 2 hour nap late morning and went to bed this evening around 7:30.  I hope he can stay asleep again tonight.  Markus and I had lunch with Grandpa today.  Randy was able to intrude....  I mean join us. lol  Markus PIGGED OUT!  That boy can EAT.  And he did the same thing at dinner.  He should be getting some neck rolls soon!
I finally was forced to started clearing off my memory card.  It was full.  I had over 900 pictures!  900!!  It is so time consuming, I am going to have to do it in stages.  I printed and copied to CD, 142 pictures today.  I did it at Walgreens.  Next time I will do it online. Those 142 pictures were from Christmas last year.  I have some work to do!
I'm really looking forward to Thanksgiving break from school.  I HATE getting up early.  I am N O T a morning person.  Most of the kids aren't either.
On facebook, we are posting something we are thankful for every day in November.  I may copy and paste my posts here.  It is hard to only choose one thing every day.  I am so humbled by all that I have.  I love my life and know I am right where I am meant to be.

Trick!

Look at this face!  Cute, right?  Angelic some might say.  That's all part of his plan.  He lures you in with that adorable face and amazing blue eyes.  He acts all charming and sweet.  He makes you fall in love with him so he can have his way with you!  I think his plan is to keep me up at night, then HOPE I'll fall asleep during the day so he can have my cell phone and all the remotes.  I'm on to you Markus!  Good try though, good try!
